UNMARRIED COUPLES

If you are a couple living together, and one partner dies, you will not be treated as a married couple in Law.

If there is no Will, each partner will be treated as a single person and the Intestacy Laws will decide how the estates will be distributed. This could mean that the survivor will get nothing or will need to make a claim through the Courts, which will costly and lengthy.

If you hold any property jointly, this will automatically transfer to the survivor. The survivor can then deal with the whole property however they wish, which could mean your family getting nothing!
